Animal rights activists protest at Bukit Aman over delayed probe into UPM stray
KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 17 — Animal rights activists protested outside Bukit Aman police headquarters on Saturday to demand an expedited investigation into the shooting of 18 stray dogs on the Universiti Putra Malaysia campus in October.
The protest occurred as activists expressed frustration over delays in the police probe.
"We are here because justice for these animals has been delayed for too long," a spokesperson for the group said.
The dogs were killed on the UPM campus in Serdang, Selangor.
Police confirmed they are investigating the incident under animal cruelty laws.
Activists claim the shooting was unnecessary and violated animal welfare regulations.
The case has drawn public attention and sparked debates over stray animal management in Malaysia.
UPM previously stated it followed procedures for handling stray animals on campus.
Animal rights groups have been monitoring the investigation since October.
Police said they will update the public once the investigation is complete.
