FAM takes over technical aspects of Malaysia's NFDP, MSN retains management role

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 15 — The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) has taken over the technical aspects of the National Football Development Programme (NFDP), while the National Sports Council (MSN) will continue managing administrative and support functions.

The restructuring aims to strengthen Malaysia's football talent development ecosystem through a more organized and integrated approach.

FAM will now handle all technical responsibilities including athlete training, tournament participation, and coaching management at all NFDP levels.

"Among the main responsibilities shouldered by FAM include athlete training, tournament participation, and coaching management at all NFDP implementation levels," according to MSN.

The move follows recommendations from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), which assessed the program at the request of the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

MSN will maintain its role in managing administration, facility and financial management, and competition organization.

This includes athlete welfare and education, hostel and nutrition management, and medical and sports science services.

The clear division of roles between FAM and MSN is designed to ensure more effective and professional NFDP implementation.

The program aligns with international football development standards and guarantees the welfare of young national athletes.

Three main committees monitor the program to ensure transparent and effective governance.

The Steering Committee is chaired by Youth and Sports Minister Mohamed Taufiq Johari as the highest authority.

The Working Committee is chaired by MSN Director General Jefri Ngadirin to coordinate policy implementation and program operations.

MSN stated that this strengthened management structure is expected to produce more high-quality players.

The goal is to develop players who excel not only at the national level but are also competitive internationally.
