Former FMT Reporter Rex Tan to Be Released After Police Statement, Says Home Min

KULIM, Jan 17 — Former FMT reporter Rex Tan will be released soon after police record his statement, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said.

Tan was detained by authorities in connection with an ongoing investigation.

"Police will be releasing the former FMT reporter Rex Tan soon," Saifuddin said.

The minister did not specify the exact timing of the release or details of the investigation.

Tan's detention had drawn attention from media and human rights groups.

Freedom of the press advocates have expressed concerns over the case.

FMT, or Free Malaysia Today, is a prominent online news portal in Malaysia.

The release follows standard police procedures for questioning suspects.

Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
