Home Ministry welcomes PM's directive to shelve military, police procurement dec
KULIM, Jan 17 — The Home Ministry has welcomed Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's instruction to temporarily shelve procurement decisions by the Malaysian Armed Forces and the Royal Malaysia Police linked to corruption issues.
Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said he will consult the ministry's secretary-general to determine appropriate actions in line with the directive.
"The Prime Minister believes there is a need to review the procurement. We at KDN welcome this," he told reporters after opening a service centre in Padang Serai.
He said the instruction is seen as a reset of procurement decisions at the ministry, which receives substantial annual allocations.
Yesterday, the Prime Minister ordered that all such procurement decisions are temporarily shelved pending full compliance with procedures.
He said the government will review and restructure all procurement processes to ensure transparency.
The directive follows concerns over corruption in procurement linked to the armed forces and police.
It aims to overhaul existing systems to prevent misuse of funds.
The Home Ministry oversees the police, while the Defence Ministry manages the armed forces.
Further details on the review timeline and specific measures are expected to be announced after consultations.
