King Sultan Ibrahim to deliver Royal Address as Malaysian Parliament opens new s
KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 17 — The First Meeting of the Fifth Session of the 15th Parliament begins Monday with King Sultan Ibrahim delivering the Royal Address at the opening ceremony, focusing on national development, welfare, and economic matters as the 13th Malaysia Plan starts.
The ceremony will be broadcast live from 10 am via official media channels, local television, and online platforms.
Before the address, the King will inspect a Royal Guard of Honour from the 1st Battalion of Royal Malay Regiment at Parliament Square.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, both Deputy Prime Ministers, the cabinet, and heads of foreign delegations are scheduled to attend.
The 20-day Dewan Rakyat session includes tabling the Motion of Thanks on the Royal Address, with a seven-day debate starting Jan 20.
A winding-up session by ministers is set for Feb 4 to 10, followed by bills and government business from Feb 23.
Parliament will not sit on Feb 2-3 for Federal Territories Day and Thaipusam, and Feb 16-19 for Chinese New Year and early Ramadan.
The Dewan Negara session will run for 13 days starting Feb 23.
Key bills expected include limiting the Prime Minister's term to 10 years and separating powers between the Public Prosecutor and Attorney General.
Other bills are the Ombudsman Bill 2025 and Freedom of Information Bill, with focus on second readings of postponed bills like the International Settlement Agreements and Urban Renewal bills.
