Malaysia disburses SARA assistance to 3.1 million singles amid cost-of-living co

PUTRAJAYA, Jan 17 — The Malaysian government began disbursing Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) assistance to single individuals today, with 3.1 million eligible recipients aged 21 to 59 receiving up to RM100 monthly to address rising living costs.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MOHA) stated the aid targets a significant segment of the population, based on National Registration Department records showing a large proportion of adults fall into this category.

"This assistance is channelled to help single individuals, especially youths, who are affected by the rising cost of living, whether they are just starting their careers, self-employed or earning low incomes," MOHA said in a statement.

MOHA described the initiative as reflecting the Madani Government's commitment to inclusive and humane policies in response to public concerns.

Recipients are advised to manage the funds prudently, prioritizing basic needs like food, healthcare, and daily necessities while avoiding wastage.

"This assistance is hoped to serve as temporary support that provides space for the people to continue striving, be self-reliant and build a more stable future," the statement added.

MOHA pledged to support transparent implementation of government policies focused on compassion, social justice, and public well-being.

The government views citizen welfare as foundational to national stability and security, aiming to strengthen this commitment for a more prosperous Malaysia.

The SARA programme delivers Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) payments through MyKad, with disbursements starting today.
