Malaysian PM Anwar Ibrahim emphasizes justice, harmony in Israk and Mikraj messa

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 17 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim highlighted the significance of prayer and justice in a Facebook post commemorating the Islamic occasion of Israk and Mikraj, calling for societal harmony and humility.

He stated that the Prophet Muhammad's journey included the acceptance of the five daily prayers as a core act of worship for Muslims.

"Prayer was not merely a routine act of worship, but carried a broad dimension with profound effects not only one’s self, but also involving the family, society and the nation," Anwar said.

He referenced the classical work 'Munyatul Musolli' by Syeikh Daud Al-Fatani, which links prayer to principles of justice and good governance.

"Justice is about balance and exists alongside the phenomenon of global convivencia, namely a situation in which humanity lives together in a culture of peace," Anwar said.

The Prime Minister emphasized that achieving justice is a shared responsibility for both Muslims and non-Muslims to realize universal humanitarian goals.

He urged all parties to preserve a harmonious and peaceful way of life while rejecting prejudice, false stereotypes, and hostile narratives.

"At the same time, we must remain humble and modest, because we may not have the right answers," Anwar added.

Israk and Mikraj marks the Prophet Muhammad's night journey and ascension to heaven, observed by Muslims worldwide.

Anwar's message aligns with his previous calls for interfaith dialogue and national unity in Malaysia's multi-ethnic society.

The post was shared on his official Facebook page as part of the religious observance, according to Bernama.
