Man killed in shooting at Nibong Tebal car wash, police treat as murder

NIBONG TEBAL, Jan 17 — A 38-year-old man died after being shot multiple times by two men on a motorcycle at a car wash in Jalan Besar Permatang Keling on Wednesday night, with police investigating the case as murder.

The pair rode up to the victim at about 10.20pm and opened fire at close range, according to the New Straits Times.

Penang police chief Datuk Azizee Ismail said investigators are treating the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

The victim was first taken to Parit Buntar Hospital in Perak and later moved to Taiping Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Police said the offence carries either the death penalty or a prison term of 30 to 40 years, along with at least 12 strokes of the cane if the death sentence is not applied.

No arrests have been reported as of the time of writing.

The incident occurred in a residential area of Nibong Tebal, a town in Penang state.

Section 302 of the Penal Code is the primary statute for murder cases in Malaysia.

Further details on the motive or identities of the suspects have not been disclosed by authorities.

Investigations are ongoing, and police are urging anyone with information to come forward.
