Telekom Malaysia Announces New Round of Staff Reductions Following 'Overwhelming

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 16 — Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) will implement another round of staff reductions this year after receiving an "overwhelming response" to its manpower optimization program, the company confirmed today.

The telecommunications giant did not specify the exact number of positions to be cut but indicated the move is part of a broader cost-reduction strategy.

"The program aims to streamline operations and enhance efficiency," a TM spokesperson said.

This follows previous workforce adjustments by the company in recent years.

TM employs approximately 20,000 people across Malaysia.

The staff reduction plan is expected to lower overall staffing costs significantly.

Industry analysts view the move as a response to competitive pressures and technological shifts in the telecom sector.

TM reported revenue of RM12.3 billion in its last fiscal year.

The company plans to offer voluntary separation schemes as part of the optimization effort.

Further details on the timeline and scale of reductions will be announced in the coming weeks.
