Two sisters detained in Tumpat for repeated petrol purchases, car seized with mo

TUMPAT, Jan 15 — Two sisters were detained by enforcement officers for repeatedly purchasing petrol at a station here, with their car seized after a modified tank holding an estimated 250 litres of fuel was discovered.

The women, aged 23 and 33, were arrested at 1.57 pm yesterday following intelligence received by the Kelantan Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN).

A team from the ministry's 'Ops Gempur Barang Kawalan' trailed their Proton Wira to Kampung Jubakar Darat.

Inspection of the vehicle revealed five jerry cans and a modified fuel tank in the boot.

The modified tank was believed to contain an estimated 250 litres of petrol.

Kelantan KPDN deputy director Aswadi Jaafar said the car was seized.

The two women will be investigated under Section 21 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961.

The operation targeted repeated petrol purchases, which are regulated under Malaysian law to prevent hoarding and smuggling.

Section 21 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961 prohibits unauthorized dealing in controlled items, with penalties including fines and imprisonment.

Authorities continue to monitor fuel stations across Kelantan to enforce supply controls.
