Venezuelan opposition leader Machado says she presented Nobel medal to Trump

WASHINGTON, Jan 15 — Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado said she presented U.S. President Donald Trump with her Nobel Peace Prize medal during their meeting on Thursday.

Machado did not answer reporters' questions about whether Trump accepted the medal.

The meeting occurred at the White House, according to sources familiar with the event.

Machado, a prominent critic of Venezuela's government, won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2025 for her advocacy of democratic reforms.

"I wanted to share this symbol of peace with President Trump," Machado said in a brief statement after the meeting.

White House officials declined to comment on the exchange.

The meeting was part of Trump's ongoing engagement with international opposition figures.

Machado has led Venezuela's opposition movement since 2023, advocating for free elections and human rights.

Trump has previously expressed support for democratic transitions in Venezuela.

The Nobel Peace Prize medal presentation represents a symbolic gesture in diplomatic relations.
