Warisan warns of legal, political fallout if Sabah's 40% revenue ruling ignored

KOTA KINABALU, Jan 17 — Failure to comply with a High Court order mandating the review and implementation of Sabah's 40% net revenue entitlement would have legal and political consequences, says opposition party Warisan.

The party issued the warning following a court ruling that requires the federal government to address the long-standing revenue claim.

"Inaction on this court ruling will not only have legal repercussions but also political consequences," a Warisan spokesperson said.

The High Court recently ordered a review of Sabah's entitlement to 40% of net revenue derived from the state.

This entitlement is based on constitutional provisions dating back to Malaysia's formation.

Sabah has historically claimed it receives less than its constitutional share of federal revenue.

The issue has been a point of contention between Sabah and the federal government for decades.

Warisan's statement highlights growing pressure on authorities to implement the court's decision.

The party did not specify what exact consequences might follow non-compliance.

Observers note the ruling could significantly impact federal-state financial relations.

No timeline has been announced for the review process to begin.
