Zelenskiy says Ukraine not obstacle to peace after Trump remarks
KYIV, Jan 15 — President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said on Thursday that Ukraine is not an obstacle to peace, responding to comments made a day earlier by U.S. President Donald Trump.
The Ukrainian leader made the statement during a press briefing in Kyiv.
"Ukraine is not an obstacle to peace," Zelenskiy said.
He affirmed his country's commitment to resolving the conflict through diplomatic means.
The remarks came after Trump suggested Ukraine might be prolonging the war during a campaign event on Wednesday.
Zelenskiy did not directly name Trump but referenced "comments made yesterday."
The exchange highlights ongoing tensions in U.S.-Ukraine relations regarding peace negotiations.
Ukraine has been engaged in conflict with Russia since 2014, with intensified fighting since 2022.
The United States has provided military and financial support to Ukraine throughout the conflict.
Diplomatic efforts to end the war have stalled in recent months.
Both sides continue to express willingness for peace talks under certain conditions.
